Triinu Upkin

Young Choreographer from Estonia who's choreography has been already in Estonian National Ballet's repertoire. She will make a brand new staging for you.

Born: 22.12.1987, Tallinn

Triinu Leppik-Upkin got her professional training from Ida Dance School wich she graduated in 2006, after studying another year in Tallinn Ballet School she was asked to join Estonian National Ballet in 2007. She has been dancing various repertoire from classical ballets to operas and off-stage projects. Some of her noticeable roles are: Carabosse (T. Edur’s “Sleeping Beauty”), Stepmother (M. Kesler’s “Cinderella”), Berthe Weill (T. Edur’s “Modigliani”), two big swans (both T. Edur’s and T. Härm’s “Swan lake”), Ballerina (K. Lindal’s “Kehameel”) e.t.c. Triinu has been awarded with Klaudia Maldutis’ Ballet Prize in 2013.

Triinu choreographed her first piece in 2015, her work “La valse á mille temps” for “Burning Dance: Young Choreographer’s evening” in 2016 was a big success and has been performed several times on the stage of Estonian National Opera and abroad. In 2017 she choreographed with Sergei Upkin a one-act piece called “Jazz-Ballet Club” were ballet dancers were accompanied by a live jazz band. The latter was included in Estonian National Ballet’s repertoire.

Triinu has a Master’s degree in Cultural Theory (Tallinn University 2015) and leads an educational program about ballet for young adults in Estonian National Opera.
