Linnar Looris was born in Estonia and received his ballet training at Tallinn Ballet School. During his graduation years (2000, 2001) he was chosen to represent Estonia at the European Dance Festival (France), where he had the opportunity to get additional coaching from Vladimir Vasiliev and Monique Loudieres. At the European Dance Festival, he performed leading roles and toured around France, Italy and Switzerland.
before joining the Estonian National Ballet in 2001. In 2002, Mr. Looris received the Philip Morris Young Dancer of the Year Award and in 2003 became a Principal Dancer in the Estonian National Ballet, receiving the Foundation of Culture Scholarship Awards in 2004 and 2006. While in the company, Mr. Looris performed all the leading roles in the company's classical and contemporary repertoire and toured through Finland, Sweden, Ukraine, Russia and USA.
In 2006 he joined Birmingham Royal Ballet (UK) as a Soloist, where his principal roles included Romeo and Paris in Sir Kenneth MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet, The Prince in Sir Peter Wright's The Nutcracker, Apollo in George Balanchine's Apollo and That's Life in Twyla Tharp's Nine Sinatra Songs. Mr.
Looris joined Houston Ballet in 2007. Ever since then he has danced a variety of leading roles, including the Prince in Ben Stevenson's The Nutcracker; Prince and Stepmother in Stanton Welch's Cinderella; Onegin in John Cranko's Onegin; Solor in Stanton Welch's La Bayadere; Prince Florimund in Ben Stevenson's The Sleeping Beauty; Pinkerton and Sharpless in Stanton Welch's Madame Butterfly and Prince Siegfried in Stanton Welch's Swan Lake.
He has also been featured in the principal couple roles in Christopher Wheeldon's Carousel; Anthony Tudor's The Leaves are Fading; Sir Kenneth MacMillan's Song of The Earth; George Balanchine's Serende and Emeralds; Twyla Tharp's The Brahms-Haydn Variations; Jerrome Robbins' In the Night; Julia Adams' Ketubah; Sir Frederick Ashton's Les Patineurs; and Stanton Welch's Indigo, Falling, The Four Seasons, and Nosotros. Mr. Welch has also created roles for him in his world premiere ballets Tapestry, The Core, and Marie.
