Sergei Upkin

Sergei is a Principal Soloist with Estonian National Ballet. He owns a Master´s degree in teaching classical ballet from Vaganova Academy.

Graduated from A. J. Vaganova’s Russian Ballet Academy as a ballet dancer in 1999 and has worked since as a soloist and principal in Estonian National Ballet.In 2005-2007 he worked with Berlin Staatoper under the guidance of Vladimir Malakhov.

He has been guest soloist in Belgrad National Theatre, Helsinki National Opera, Bucharest National Theatre. His repertoire consists of most classical leading roles as well as contemporary ones.

Sergei Upkin has been a ballet master and choreographer at the United Dance Company tour (2009). He has choreographed various short pieces for Estonian National Ballet’s dancers as well as for students from different ballet schools.

In 2013 he finished his studies at A. J. Vaganova’s Russian Ballet Academy as a Master in the Arts of Choreography to become a ballet teacher at Tallinn Ballet School the same year. His first male class will graduate in spring 2018.
